From the streets of Wichita to the southeast corners of Kansas, Catholic Charities has walked alongside people in the most need for decades. While our services may have changed over the years ased on the needs of the community, our commitment to loving like Jesus has not.
With the support of donors, volunteers and staff, we have touched thousands of lives throughout the 25 counties of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. Together, We Are There stabilizing and empowering people in need through our 13 ministries.
Carl and Yiyesha’s Story
“Never in a million years could you have told me that I would have been in a shelter, let alone having my family there,” said Carl Cope.
He and his wife Yiyesha found themselves in a situation where they had never been before and were staying in their truck. They took the first step by reaching out for help. From the first day they walked in, they felt supported and reassured that things would be okay.
Arlene and Max’s Story
Arlene searched for a new purpose after retiring from a fulfilling 34-year teaching career. That opportunity came through volunteering at Adult Day Services (ADS), a program that had already blessed her family by providing a place for her son, Max, to thrive.
The experience brought her immense joy. She reflects, “When I can do anything to give people joy, I get joy in return. Finding my purpose at ADS fills my heart with joy.”
Marilyn’s Story
“My personal drive, or mission, is to help somebody so they don’t have to go through what I went through as a child.
“With my background, being homeless at a point in my life, made me realize that there are places out there that could help people. And I wanted to be part of that.”
Marilyn’s passion for serving the homeless families at St. Anthony Family Shelter is an inspiration and a testiment to the staff of Catholic Charities. Many of our staff are here to make a difference, to be that one moment of change for someone else, to be help someone in their moment of greatest need.
“Some people are in a position to give a lot; some people are in a position to give a little. All of us are needed.”
